Childen's artwork on display in Shoreham & Orwell until Aug. 24

SHOREHAM / ORWELL — VSA Vermont, the state organization on arts and disability, is hosting a children’s art show at Orwell Free Library from July 27-Aug. 19, and Platt Memorial Library in Shoreham from July 20-Aug. 24.

The exhibition, which can be seen during normal library hours, features the work of children from Muffy Kashkin Grollier’s home childcare program. The public is invited to these free exhibits.

Take a guided history hike in Orwell Aug. 6

ORWELL — Stephen Zeoli, will lead a guided hike into Revolutionary War history at the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell on Sunday, August 6, 2017. The walk runs from 2-4 p.m., and is included with regular site admission of $5.00 for adults and free for children under 15.

Walkers will learn about the stirring happenings of 1777, 240 years ago, and see some of the traces of that time on the landscape.

Bankruptcy forces Rutland County dairy to auction cows and machinery

IRA — The 108 head of cattle are gone. So are the tractors, balers and even the manure spreader.

They all went to the highest bidders at an auction earlier this month at Milky Way Farm in Ira after a creditor of the financially struggling Rutland County dairy operation called in a $152,000 loan.

Mary Saceric-Clark and her son, Robbie Clark Jr., had been trying for years to stave off the sale.

Ross Sheehan brings his abstract art to Middlebury

A selection of 10 abstract expressionistic monotypes by Ross Sheehan will be on exhibit at Otter Creek Custom Framing’s front gallery in Middlebury now through Aug. 31. Sheehan created the prints for “Swipes and Slashes: Abstract Monotypes” in 2004 over a weekend-long printmaking session at Robert Reynolds’ Blue Hand Studio press in Branford, Conn.

Diamond Island Regatta to benefit Lake Champlain Maritime Museum

Vermont Secretary of State chosen to lead national association

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — On Monday, July 10, Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos was chosen by a bi-partisan group of his peers as President-elect of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) at the Summer Conference in Indianapolis.

NASS serves as a medium for Secretaries across the country to share ideas and best practices in the development of public policy as it relates to elections and voting, business services and policy relating to state archival work and records management.

If you missed the “Senior Lifestyles” special section a few weeks ago, this is an introduction to the End of Life Care Partnership that has been operating here in Addison County for eight years. Our mission is “to create a framework for our organizations to collaborate on our common goal of providing education about dying, death and options for care.”

On the last Monday of each month we will bring topics to light in order to inspire and inform our friends and neighbors about dying and death.
