ACSU position would oversee maintenence of 7 town schools

MIDDLEBURY — The Addison Central Supervisory Union (ACSU) is considering creating a new, $73,449-per-year position to help the district’s seven elementary schools maintain their respective buildings and plan for their long-term facilities needs.

City plans better speed enforcement on South Maple St.

VERGENNES — Vergennes aldermen on Tuesday supported Police Chief George Merkel’s plan for more aggressive enforcement in response to an August petition from South Maple Street residents requesting the city to address what they say is persistent speeding in their neighborhood.

Sept. 21 BBQ and dance to benefit youth project in Starksboro

STARKSBORO — Unbound Grace, a Starksboro-based nonprofit, will host a community benefit on Saturday, Sept. 21. Its fourth annual Community Big Barn Dance will include a country potluck with chicken BBQ, family field days, a silent auction, and all-ages square and contra dancing with a little bit of rock-and-roll. Music is provided by talented local band Gumbo YaYa. The event will be held at Sentinel Farms, 4118 VT Route 116 in Starksboro, from 3 to 9:30 p.m. Attendees may want to bring lawn chairs or a blanket.

Eagle boys' soccer moves to 4-0 with win over Milton

BRISTOL — On Monday in Bristol, the Mount Abraham Union High School boys’ soccer team continued to look like a Division II title contender while dismissing visiting Milton, 6-1.

The Eagles moved to 4-0 and have outscored their foes by 20-4.

Still, as senior co-captain and central midfielder Cale Thygesen said after the game, it took the Eagles a while to get going against a Yellowjacket team with a misleading 0-4-1 record against tough foes.

FAIRFAX — The Mount Abraham-Vergennes high school football team on Saturday saw tailback Tommy Lee Hodsden ramble for 300 yards on 23 carries, including touchdown sprints of 82 and 90 yards, as the Eagles defeated host BFA-Fairfax, 28-20, in a Division III clash.
