Supporters of Vermont’s successful push for health care reform this past legislative session championed the single-payer system toward universal care based on the belief that “health care is a right, not a privilege.” In a similar vein, Gov. Peter Shumlin and our legislative leaders must embrace the notion that “strong community hospitals are also a right, and not a privilege for the state’s largest and wealthiest communities.”

At least two athletes from each of the four local teams are recognized here after a season in which Mount Abraham, Otter Valley, MUHS and Vergennes probably didn’t finish as well as hoped, but all still accomplished something positive.
MIDDLEBURY — The state’s top Democrats converged on Middlebury this Tuesday to exhort the party faithful to keep pressing for a single-payer health care system, the foundation for which was laid during the 2011 legislative session.
MIDDLEBURY — Nine young athletes won multiple events, and all the Mary Hogan Elementary School 5th- and 6th-graders were exposed to the sport of track and field on June 6, when the Middlebury school held its annual track meet on a sunny Monday.
The school’s physical education teachers run the annual meet, both to give all the older students a chance to learn about track and field and to give some the opportunity to shine.
MIDDLEBURY — The rain came steadily down but spirits were consistently high as friends and relatives of the 140 Middlebury Union High School graduates packed the Memorial Sports Center on Saturday to watch the MUHS class of 2011 receive their diplomas.
Six members of the graduating class shared the honors for having the top grades — two valedictorians and four salutatorians. Each was given the chance to address the crowd.
