Letter to the editor: County fortunate to have abundance of volunteers

The Addison Independent Volunteer section every spring is always so enjoyable to read — to see how many people are out there giving their time to supporting others.

MREMS has 49 dedicated members — paramedics, emergency medical technicians, heavy rescue operators — most of whom are hired on a professional basis. But a dozen MREMS staffers are volunteers.

Community members can join “working bee” brigades organized by ACORN to help tackle various projects on area farms, from onion planting to sheep shearing.

On behalf of a generous donor, one Addison County student will be chosen annually for the Youth Volunteer Scholarship, recognizing a student who volunteers in their community and is interested in advancing their education.

Officials from the Bristol Rescue Squad are reaching out to the community to assure them that the organization is looking for volunteers to help provide a vital service to Bristol and the 5-Town area.

Dial-A-Ride depends on volunteer drivers to pick up passengers and give them life-changing access to medical appointments, food shopping and other necessities.

Volunteers have been working hard to update the skatepark at the Bristol Hub Teen Center, next to the Bristol recreation fields.
