Opinion: Sen. Heffernan’s weakness is unmasked

Standing on the Senate floor and claiming you are a dog to mock civil rights isn’t dignified, and hiding in the bathroom during a constitutional vote is the definition of weakness.

Those of us who live in Addison County deserve representation grounded in basic decency and respect for human rights.

Heffernan said he is not transphobic. He said he’s not sure he would support the equal rights amendment, though, given his concerns about people who “use it for the extreme.”
