Community Forum: Affordability needs a new approach

Vermonters are suffering from unsustainable increases in the cost of everything from property taxes to healthcare. Too many people are working hard and stretching social security checks, but still worry about bills. To understand why, we need to talk about demographics.

It’s Groundhog Day. Gov. Scott vetoed the yield bill, again leaving Vermont school districts adrift. The reason: all the school budgets voters approved add up to more than Gov. Scott wants them to spend.

Based on a UVM study, the Vermont legislature is updating the education funding formula so districts that serve more disadvantaged students have the ability to raise the revenues they need to care for their children.
