Champs top Marlins on fun night

Scores are kept for summer swimming, and the record shows that on Tuesday the visiting Vergennes Champs defeated the Middlebury Marlins, 308-185. 

The visiting St. Albans Sharks edged the Middlebury Marlins, 263-234, on July 18 in Champlain Valley Swim League action.

The Middlebury Marlins Swim Team on July 2 topped visiting Essex, 249.5-195.5, in the team’s second meet of the Champlain Valley Swim League season. 

On Tuesday night, the Middlebury Swim Team faced off against the reigning league champions, the Burlington Tennis Club Barracudas.

The Middlebury Marlins swim team opened its season on Tuesday, June 25, by defeating host Burlington Country Club, 207-148. 

Both Addison County youth swim teams claimed individual titles and the Vergennes Swim Team also captured four relay victories at the Vermont Swim Association Championships this past weekend at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction.

The Vergennes Champs settled for third place at this past weekend’s Champlain Valley Swim League’s championship meet, while the Middlebury Marlins were sixth in the seven-team field. 

The Middlebury Marlins swim team dropped an away meet at St. Albans back on July 20 before edging Winooski in a Tuesday home meet.

Late on Tuesday afternoon the coaches of the Vergennes Champs and Middlebury Marlins conferred as an iffy forecast threatened the annual renewal of their teams’ friendly Champlain Valley Swim League rivalry. 

The Middlebury Marlins’ record stands at 2-1 after they  split two recent Champlain Valley Swim League meets. 

The Middlebury Marlins opened their Champlain Valley Swim League season on Tuesday with a 202-182 victory over visiting Burlington Country Club at the Middlebury town pool.

The Vergennes Swim Team (VST) roundly defeated five of the other six teams in this past weekend’s Champlain Valley Swim League (CVSL) Championship Meet in their home pool, but no one could beat Burlington Tennis Club.

While adults alternately chatted, cheered and cooled off under sun umbrellas on a steamy summer night, young swimmers from the host Middlebury Marlins and the Vergennes Champs on Tuesday renewed their friendly rivalry in Middlebury’s town pool.
