Monkton to open history museum

Soon, community members will have yet another reason to stop by the town hall, as a group of residents has been working on a new Monkton History Museum that will open in the lower level of the building next week.

New Haven native Homer Hulbert became a missionary, linguist, writer and national hero in Korea for his peaceful advocacy of Korean independence during the Japanese occupation.

On Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m., Chief Don Stevens, Nulhegan Band of the Coosuk – Abenaki Nation will talk about the Abenaki culture and beliefs, what peoples were in this area, how the area was used.

The Mount Independence State Historic Site is offering a spring guided history walk on and off the trails on Saturday, May 3.

A new 55-page book called “East Monkton, Vermont: A History of Its Land and People” has just been published by the Monkton Museum and Historical Society.
