Regional planning survey affirms housing crisis

With a great majority of Addison County residents agreeing that we are in a housing crisis, there’s broad support for creating new dwellings through zoning changes. People here also favor authorizing more accessory apartments and offering other incentives for startups.

The Addison County Regional Planning Commission this summer is taking a three-pronged approach to help create more dwelling opportunities in what is currently a super-tight housing market in our area.

Three Addison County municipalities are well-positioned to receive a $100,000 grant to plan future housing, bike paths and other facilities that could dovetail with the new passenger rail service in their communities.

You may not head to next week’s Addison County Fair & Field Days expecting to find a way to save money on your energy bill, but representatives from local energy committees and programs are working to make sure you do.

My challenge to all of you is this: How do we restore not only the buildings themselves, but their use, their purpose and their pride?
