Two green monarch chrysalises
THE BANDS ON these two butterfly chrysalises found in Weybridge late last month glitter just like gold. The caterpillars inside are going through their metamorphosis and after a few weeks will suddenly emerge from these cases as incredible monarchs. Peggy Lyons, who sent in this picture, said the last time she did this the newly hatched butterflies climbed onto her hand and stretched their wings to dry them before softly drifted away — probably heading for Mexico! ASSOCIATE CURATOR AND Professor Pieter Broucke, above left, gestures toward two prints by Giovanni Battista Piranesi that Middlebury College acquired in 1900 for the inauguration of Starr Library. They are featured in the exhibition “Giovanni Battista Piranesi: Visions of Grandeur,” on view at the Middlebury College Museum of Art through Dec. 7. Above right, Broucke stands beside the “Ancient Roman Cinerary Urn,” an antiquity restored by Piranesi. Independent photos/Maria Barr

The staff at Middlebury Sport and Spine formally open their business at 227 Pond Lane in a ceremony late last month. Pictured, from left, are Dr. Erik Pajer-Rogers, Cheyenne Capek-Reed, Caitlin Bone, Jacob Bone, and Anneke Jewett.
