Lincoln news for Aug. 19

LINCOLN — Keep your eye on the “Take it or Leave it” farm stand, located in front of the church, as it has been full of delicious fruits and vegetables. Stop by and grab yourself some fresh produce or leave something from your garden for your neighbor to enjoy.

FROM THE TOWN

There will be a special town meeting on Monday, Aug. 23, at 6 p.m., at Burnham Hall. On Tuesday, Aug. 24, polls will be open at Burnham Hall from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Australian ballot voting. The one question on the ballot is: Shall the Town of Lincoln withdraw from the Mount Abraham Unified School District (MAUSD)?

For this election, the selectboard decided to have a ballot mailed to every active voter, and these have all been sent out as of July 30. If you have not received your ballot by now, please contact the town clerk’s office right away. Your mailing address may need to be updated, or you might not be registered to vote in Lincoln. If you are not on the voter checklist, it’s not too late. You can register up until 7 p.m. on Aug. 24. If you do this sooner, then it will save time at the polls on Election day. To register to vote, you can apply at this website: olvr.vermont.gov. You may also register at the town clerk’s office.

Remember to read and follow the instructions that come with your absentee ballot so that your vote will be counted. Return your voted ballot in the secure drop box outside the town office. If you return your voted ballot by mail, be sure to affix a first class stamp to the mailing envelope as they are not prepaid like they were in November. Ballots must be received at the town clerk’s office by Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. in order to be counted. If you decide to vote in person at Burnham Hall on Aug. 24, please bring your ballot and a mask with you. Workers and voters will be masking at the polling place.

REMINDER

First day of school for MAUSD students is Wednesday, Aug. 25.
