High school harriers compete at Burlington Invite

BURLINGTON — Middlebury Union High School junior Max Moulton finished fourth in the boys’ race at Saturday’s Burlington Invitational Cross-Country Meet to highlight the efforts of runners from MUHS, Vergennes and Mount Abraham.
Moulton’s run in 17:19.1 over the 5K course helped the Tiger boys finish eighth among 19 teams and second among the Division II teams competing with 218 points. Essex won with 63, followed by defending D-II champion Harwood (73) in second.
The top Commodore in the race of mostly D-I teams was Jared Miedema in 86th, and Chris Carter took 91st to pace the Eagle boys. VUHS (432) was 17th, and Mount Abe (587) was 19th overall.
The Tigers’ Nicole Morris led all local runners in the girls’ race by taking 56th, and the Eagles’ Bakari Olivetti was close behind in 62nd.
The Tiger girls did not field a full team, and the Eagle girls were 16th with 422. Champlain Valley (35) romped to the win, with Essex (104) in second. Richford’s Elle Purrier continued her dominance of Vermont girls’ cross-country with a 30-second win over runner-up Taylor Spillane of CVU.
