PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Middlebury College women’s soccer team improved its record to 4-0 with two shutout victories on the road this week. The Panthers are now ranked No. 9 in NCAA Division III.
The team earned a 3-0 victory at Colby College in NESCAC play Saturday. Rachel Madding scored the lone goal of the first half at 28:12 when she took a pass from Maddy Boston and scored on a long blast.
Hannah Robinson made it 2-0 at 65:36 of the contest with an assist from Julia Favorito. The Panthers finished the scoring when Ali Omsberg tipped in a shot off a pass from the corner by Scarlett Kirk.
Elizabeth Foody made one save to earn Middlebury’s third shutout in three games. Jayde Bennett played the first half for Colby and made two saves, while Emily Brook came on to start the second half and also stopped two shots.
Middlebury followed up with a 1-0 overtime win at Plattsburgh on Tuesday. Kirk scored the game’s only goal, on a pass from Julia Favorito, with nine seconds remaining in the first overtime period. The Cardinals fell to 4-4 with the loss.
Middlebury controlled much of the game, holding a 21-7 shots advantage. Plattsburgh’s Monica D’Ippolito made 11 saves in goal.
The Panthers outshot the Cardinals 12-3 in the second frame and 5-1 in overtime.
Foody made five saves for the Panthers; she and her teammates have not allowed a goal in four games this season.
