Shoreham Festival celebrates ‘Dog Days’

SHOREHAM — The town of Shoreham will celebrate the theme “Dog Days of Summer” on Saturday, Aug. 31, at the 2013 Shoreham Festival.
The day kicks off with a hearty pancake breakfast served at the Shoreham Congregational Church from 8 to 10 a.m.
The Shoreham Tennis Club will host 3 hours of fun play from 9 a.m. to noon. This fun and friendly group of tennis players will welcome new players, as well as help seasoned veterans on the court shake the rust off that backhand.
The firehouse will by hopping from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a flea market, bake sale and car wash. And, true to the “Dog Days of Summer” theme, there will be a dog wash as well.
Floats, groups, walkers and vehicles will line up for the parade at 4 p.m. at the Seed Way (Shoreham Co-Op) parking lot. Dogs are encouraged to bring their owners on a leash to participate in the parade through Main Street in Shoreham village. The first 50 dogs with owners will receive doggie bags filled with treats from area businesses. The parade kicks off at 4:30 p.m. so spectators should have their spots on Main Street staked out well in advance.
The parade will proceed up the hill to the Congregational Church, where the Firemen’s Finest Chicken Bar-B-Q dinner will be held. Children’s activities will take place around the library. People are encouraged to take their dogs home after dinner and return to the village around 8:30 p.m. for what festival organizers are calling, “simply the best fireworks display seen in these parts for over a year.”
