VUHS track athletes win 5 contests in Essex

ESSEX — Vergennes Union High School track and field athletes won five events on Thursday at a three-way meet against Division I foes Essex and Burlington hosted by Essex.
Junior Chris Castillo won both the long and triple jumps, and the Commodores also excelled in the throwing events. Senior Kris Brooks won the boys’ javelin, with senior Jordan Stearns second, while Stearns won the shot put, with Brooks second.
Junior Ally Stearns won the girls’ shot put to give VUHS its fifth victory.
Overall, the Burlington boys scored 137 points, followed by Essex, 121, and VUHS, 70.
Essex scored 169 to win the girls’ competition, followed by Burlington, 121, and VUHS, 30.

• Javelin: 1. Brooks, 120 feet, six inches; 2. Stearns, 112-3; 6. Zach Gebo, 89-7.
• Long jump: 1. Castillo, 19-2.25.
• Triple jump: 1. Castillo, 39-9.25.
• Shot put: 1. Stearns, 36-2; 2. Brooks, 34-7; 3. Gebo, 32-9.
• 100 meters: 7. Sebby Crowell, 12.3.
• 1,500: 16. Xavier Provencher, 6:00.05.
• Four-by-100 relay: 2. VUHS, 47.98 (Stearns, Liam Godfrey, Crowell, Castillo).
• 400: 2. Godfrey, 57.37; 3. Jake Dombek, 1:00.04.
• 800: 7. Provencher, 2:49.15.
• 200: 3. Godfrey, 24.92.
• 4X400: 2. VUHS, 4:12.03 (Castillo, Crowell, Godfrey, Dombek).
The complete Commodore girls’ results were:
• Shot put: 1. Stearns, 28-8; 7. Sammy Kepes, 20-3.5.
• Javelin: 4. Kepes, 49-9.
• 100: 16. Alyse Beauchemin, 16.54.
• 1,500: 9. Sophia Parker, 7:16.95.
• 400: 2. Alix Kauffman, 1:10.29; 3. Samara Sausville, 1:13.12; 6. Paige Stolen, 1:14.51.
• 800: 9. Stolen, 2:59.59.
• 200: 3. Kauffman, 31.22: 9. Beauchemin, 35.97.
• 4X400: 2. VUHS, 4:59.45 (Stolen, Sausville, Ruby Dombek, Kauffman).
