MUHS girls’ tennis conquers wind, Lake Region

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ tennis team took a pair of matches from visiting Lake Region on Monday, one the teams’ regularly scheduled contest and the other a match that both programs agreed to play there and then rather than have MUHS visit Lake Region on Saturday.
The Tigers breezed — a fair way to describe their victories in winds gusting up to 30 mph — in both matches, prevailing by scores of 6-1, 7-0.
“The winds might have been the toughest part of our match today, but the girls handled it well and they will get better at dealing with the weather conditions with each match,” said Coach Laura Rumbough.
In the first of two matches, both of which were played in single, eight-game sets to allow both matches to be staged, the singles results were:
At No. 1, Marvie Avery, M, defeated Shaylyn Beaton, LR, 8-0.
