Softball: Eagles win, VUHS splits, Tigers

ADDISON COUNTY — In area high school softball action late last week, Mount Abraham won on the road, Vergennes split a pair of road contests, and Middlebury dropped a home game.
Otter Valley saw rain wash away its only scheduled game, at Leland & Gray on Friday, with no makeup date immediately set.
EAGLES
On Thursday, the Eagles snapped a brief two-game skid in style, pounding host South Burlington, 18-3, in five innings. A 10-run fourth inning put the game away and made a winner of pitcher Sam Forand. Tiffany Tracey knocked in three runs with three hits, and Sam Reiss also enjoyed a three-hit day as Mount Abe improved to 9-3.
COMMODORES
On Thursday, the Commodores thumped host North Country, 26-2, in five innings. Tamara Aunchman picked up seven RBIs on a homer and two singles, while Emilee Trudo earned the win by striking out seven while allowing four hits and also scoring four runs. For VUHS, Dani Brown drove in four runs with four hits, Taylor Paquette plated three runs with two hits, Felicia Armell had two hits and scored twice, and Natalie Salley drilled an RBI double.
The Commodores’ Friday game at Spaulding was called off due to rainy weather.
On Saturday, host BFA-St. Albans blanked VUHS, 6-0, as Maria Machia threw a two-hitter at the Commodores. Paquette took the pitching loss and knocked out both hits as the Commodores dropped to 7-2.
TIGERS
On Thursday, visiting BFA-St. Albans topped MUHS, 7-0, as another BFA hurler, Devin Blodgett, tossed a three-hitter. Payton Buxton took the pitching loss.
With the postponement of the Tigers’ Friday home game vs. North Country, the Tigers ended the week at 2-7.
