GRANVILLE — Vermont State Police jailed a Granville woman early Sunday morning for allegedly trying to set her rented home on fire.
Senior Trooper Daniel Hall reported that at 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 18 police responded to a complaint from a Granville property owner that his tenant, 56-year-old Kathleen Zura, had started a fire in the living room of her Route 12A residence and he was worried she might try to start another fire as she was inside the residence yelling. Upon their arrival, state police investigated and determined that Zura lit a fire on a china cabinet in the living room, which caused the cabinet and part of the living room wall to catch fire.
The fire was subsequently put out, but only after the cabinet and wall had sustained fire damage.
Police arrested Zura and charged her with first degree arson, unlawful mischief and resisting arrest, second offense. Zura was lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield for the lack of $50,000 bail.
