County fencers vie in New York
WESTPORT, N.Y. — Members of Addison County’s Vermont Fencing Alliance earned top finishes against fencers from Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Canada at this past Saturday’s Groundhog Open in Westport.
Middlebury’s Will Nop earned the local club’s best result, taking first place in Youth Epee. New Haven’s Asher Kite and Middlebury’s Peter Wolosinski earned second and third places, respectively, in that event.
In Senior Mixed Foil, Shoreham’s Jack Brisson was second and club coach Viveka Fox of Addison earned third place.
In other events:
• Wolosinski took third place in Youth Foil.
• In “E and Under” Senior Mixed Epee, Ryan Bagley of Weybridge was third, and Jack Nop finished eighth.
• In “E and Under” Mixed Foil, Bagley finished third.
• In Senior Mixed Epee: Alex Kite of New Haven finished third place, and Brisson was eighth.
The Vermont Fencing Alliance will host its own Middlebury Open at Middlebury Union Middle School on Saturday and Sunday, March 7 and 8.
