MIDDLEBURY — WomenSafe announces that Susan “Chuchi” Veguez is the recipient of the 2015 Kimberly Krans Women Who Change the World Award. A reception will be held Wednesday, March 25, from 5-6:30 p.m. at 109 Catamount Park in Middlebury to honor and celebrate Veguez’s dedication to the community. Refreshments will be provided.
Veguez grew up in several towns in the Boston area and graduated with a BS from Columbia University and an MA in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin. She has been a volunteer translator with the migrant community at the Open Door Clinic since 2002. The Open Door Clinic provides medical care to the uninsured and underinsured in the community. Veguez assists migrant families with medical, education, legal and general daily needs that are often difficult if one is isolated by language and a lack of transportation.
Veguez has also served for several years on the Open Door Clinic’s board of directors. She says she has been involved in the lives of many of her Mexican and Guatemalan friends who through their hard work and positive attitudes are largely responsible for keeping the dairy industry vibrant in Addison County.
WomenSafe presents the award annually to a woman in Addison County or Rochester whose outstanding work and achievements have had positive impacts on and furthered the safety of women and/or children in the community. The award ceremony is held in March as part of National Women’s History Month.
