UPDATE: Car strikes and kills bicyclist in Weybridge

WEYBRIDGE — A Middlebury man bicycing with his wife in Weybridge Tuesday evening was struck and killed by a Whiting man who police say was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police late Wednesday morning identified the bicyclist who was killed as 55-year-old Kelly Boe.
Vermont State Police reported that at a little before 5:30 p.m. on April 14 they went to a report of a car crash on Hamilton Road in Weybridge. Troopers said they found that a 1997 Subaru Impreza driven by 27-year-old Nathan Dearing of Whiting had struck a bicyclist, later identified as Kelly Boe. Boe was transported to the Porter Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Court filings in the case said that Boe’s wife, Kathy, was riding with him at the time and witnessed the collision.
Kelly Boe worked at Middlebury College, where he was manager of the central heating plant. The Boes have resided in Middlebury for many years and are the parents of two children.
Police said the weather was clear and the road was dry. A preliminary breath test showed that Dearing’s blood alcohol content was 0.111 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08 percent.
VSP arrested Dearing, cited him for driving under the influence with death resulting and for driving with a criminally suspended license (fifth offense), and lodged him at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $75,000 bail. He was due to be arraigned today.
The Subaru is considered totaled.
Vermont State Police were assisted at the scene by Middlebury Regional EMS and the Weybridge Fire Department. The incident is still under investigation.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Kelly Boe will be celebrated on Monday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury, with the Rev. William Beaudin as the celebrant.
