Schoen named MIT program coordinator

MIDDLEBURY — The Addison Community Athletics Foundation (ACAF) has hired Ken Schoen as a part-time program coordinator for Middlebury Indoor Tennis. He will oversee current programs and will lead efforts to expand programming for youth and others in the community.
A lifelong athlete, Schoen embraced tennis eight years ago and has developed a true love for the game. He has captained successful United States Tennis Association (USTA) teams that have competed at the New England Divisional and Sectional levels, is a member of the USTA Vermont Board, and helps coach the Middlebury Union High School boys’ varsity tennis team.
“The educational, behavioral and health benefits for children, adolescents and adults who participate in tennis is off-the-charts positive,” Schoen said. “It is truly ‘a game for life’ that has a high benefit for all who get involved.”
Prior to taking this position, Schoen was a mental health counselor for 23 years, working with a variety of populations and launching numerous programs. His past also includes owning Trillium Woodworking, a company that built and designed custom high-end furniture. Schoen resides in Lincoln with his wife, and he also works at Elderly Services facilitating activities for Project Independence participants.
Vermont Community Foundation Vice President for Program and Grants Jen Peterson said, “Ken’s passion for tennis, combined with his connections and experience working with populations that we want to reach with our programming, will be a big asset as we focus on broader outreach in the community.”
The Addison Community Athletics Foundation is a supporting organization of the Vermont Community Foundation and was established to promote access to, education about, and awareness of athletics and healthy behaviors in greater Addison County and complements the Community Foundation’s broader health, well-being, and nutrition goals. In October 2014, Middlebury Indoor Tennis was donated to ACAF, which now owns, operates and supports the facility as a nonprofit organization.
