ADDISON COUNTY — On May 22 at around 6:41 p.m. Vermont State Police responded to a reported hit-and-run incident on Route 22A in Shoreham.
Police said that a vehicle driven by a Williston man was struck by a vehicle allegedly driven by James A. Turner, 26, of Shoreham. Trooper Brett Flansburg reported that shortly after Turner fled the scene he abandoned his vehicle in a sand pit. A Vergennes police K9 unit tracked Turner to a nearby residence, whereupon police determined that he had been transported by another vehicle to another nearby residence.
Police caught up with Turner at the second home, arrested him, took him to the state police barracks in New Haven and released him after citing him for leaving the scene of an accident and giving false information to a police officer. He is due to answer the charge in Addison Superior Court, criminal division, on Aug. 27.
In other recent activity, state police:
•  On May 21 at approximately 6:48 p.m. received a report from a Monkton woman that her husband was missing. The caller said that 64-year-old Clarke Thibault left home at around 2:30 p.m. en route to Lake Carmi in Franklin and was wearing blue shorts, a blue shirt and darker colored shoes. Vermont State Police began looking for Thibault, and reported at 1:45 the next morning that he had been found.
•  On May 22 at around 8:03 p.m. responded to a reported domestic conflict at an Otter Creek Road home in Addison. Police said their investigation showed that Russell P. Kinsley, 61, of Addison had operated a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Using a breathalyzer, police measured Kinsley’s blood alcohol level at 0.105 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08 percent. Police cited Kinsley for DUI.
•  On May 24 at approximately 2:07 a.m. stopped a car driving erratically and speeding on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh. Police said the driver of the vehicle — identified as Moises Mejia, 39, of South Burlington — was under the influence of alcohol, and his blood alcohol content tested at 0.159 percent. Police cited Mejia for DUI.
•  On May 25 at 7:57 p.m. were dispatched to the area of the Rochester Fire Department on North Main Street for a report of a domestic dispute. In a 911 call, the complainant reported that she and her boyfriend — while driving a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier — were being followed by a black Pontiac Grand Am driven by her ex-boyfriend, whom she identified as Chuck Havens, 28, of Brandon. She further reported that Havens had rammed his car into hers, damaging the door frame, preventing the door from being closed. There were no injuries reported.
Police arrested Havens, cited him for aggravated assault and gross negligence and lodged him at the Southern State Correctional Facility with bail set at $2,500.
