BRISTOL — Mount Abraham Union High School directors are hoping the third try will be the charm for a newly revised 2015-2016 spending plan that Addison Northeast Supervisory Union voters will field on Tuesday, June 9.
The proposed budget of $13,947,738 is $75,000 less than the $14,022,738 spending plan district voters most recently defeated by a 755 to 485 tally on April 14. Mount Abraham serves students in the ANeSU towns of Bristol, New Haven, Monkton, Starksboro and Lincoln.
The new budget reflects a reduction of 5.3 full-time-equivalent (FTE) teaching positions, including one full-time teacher each in the math, English and science departments; and parts of positions in the physical education, foreign language, driver’s education and learning center departments.
“It’s important to note that while the new budget still reflects a reduction of 5.3 FTE positions, with some staff retiring and other resignations, those staff members that were listed to be cut may be eligible to fill these open positions,” reads a statement the Mount Abe board recently circulated through Front Porch Forum, a subscription-based neighborhood email service.
Plans call for a budget informational meeting to be held on Monday, June 8, at 7 p.m. at Mount Abe. The district is also working on a budget “information sheet” that is expected to be available on Friday, May 29, according to the board’s statement.
“We plan to mail one to each mailbox in the five towns, as well as sending another FPF message containing the link to view it online. It will also be available on the ANESU website.”
