Voyageurs to host lax playoff game in Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — The Quebec Senior Lacrosse League playoffs are coming on Sunday to Middlebury’s Memorial Sports Center.
Because of a scheduling conflict at the Vermont Voyageurs’ home arena — the Essex Skating Facility — they will play the first game of their best-three-out-of-five, box lacrosse league semifinal series in Middlebury on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The second-seeded Voyageurs will take on the No. 3 Kahnawake Mohawks, with a berth in the QSLL final at stake. The teams are set to meet on Saturday in Essex in the final game of the regular season, with the Voyageurs, winners of four straight, standing at 9-5 and the Mohawks at 8-6.
The rest of the semifinal series will alternate between the Mohawks’ home base, a reservation near Chateauguay, Quebec, and the Essex Skating Facility. Voyageurs’ semifinal home games in Essex are set for Sunday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m., and, if a Game 5 is necessary, Sunday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m.
The Ottawa Axemen (13-2) and the Kahnawake Tomahawks (0-15) will meet in the other semifinal series. The winner of the QSLL will represent the league at the President’s Cup competition in St. Catherine’s, Ontario, from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6.
According to team officials, the Voyageurs have received balanced scoring all season, with four team members among the QSLL top 10 scorers: Brandon Dube, Ethan Farrell, Greg Rogowski and Trevor Wagar.
Former University of Albany star Ty Thompson and Iroquois Nationals player Alex Kedoh Hill lead the Mohawks in scoring.
Admission for Saturday’s game at the Memorial Sports Center will be $7 for adults and $3 for high school students or children.
