Vehicle stolen in Bristol on Tuesday is found in New Jersey

BRISTOL — Vermont State Police have charged an Essex man in the theft of a car from a Bristol residence on Tuesday, July 28. Authorities recovered the vehicle on Wednesday, July 29, in New Jersey.
Police have cited Matthew Coppola, 24, who is currently being held in Essex County, N.J., for lack of $30,000 bail, according to police. Coppola will be extradited to Vermont in the future to answer to further charges, police said.
It was at around 6 p.m. on July 28 that authorities received a call about the theft of a 1995 Volvo 960 from the Monkton Road home of Carl Boss, 59. Boss reported that someone had broken into his home and stole the car from his driveway sometime between 7:15 a.m. and 1 p.m. that day, according to police.
A key break in the case occurred during the morning of July 29, when the Gladstone (N.J.) Police Department investigated a report of a suspicious vehicle in the town of Peapack, Vermont State Police said. Further investigation revealed the vehicle in question was the one that had been stolen from Bristol, according to authorities.
Peapack and Gladstone police found Coppola in possession of the stolen motor vehicle and took him into custody, police said. Coppola admitted to stealing the vehicle from the Boss residence the previous day, according to authorities.
