VERGENNES — Vergennes police between Feb. 29 and March 5 dealt with, among other cases, juvenile problems, a medical emergency that proved to be a death by natural causes, and a number of more routine issues.
During those seven days, Vergennes police:
• Followed up on Feb. 29 at a Main Street residence after Department for Children and Families personnel removed children from the premises; police issued paperwork to the parents.
• On Feb. 29 checked the welfare of a male teen on East Street who they were told might harm himself; police said he was OK after speaking to a counselor.
• On Feb. 29 calmed a man who was upset his ex-wife had contacted a family member.
• On March 1 received a tip about illegal drug activity in the area.
• On March 1 responded along with the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad to a Second Street home, where a man was reported to be having convulsions. Police said he died, and he was soon afterward pronounced dead by the medical examiner. Police ruled that the death was due to natural causes.
• On March 4 helped an elderly man who had fallen at the senior housing complex on Armory Lane.
• On March 4 helped a motorist get into a locked car on Bowman Lane.
• On March 4 helped a motorist who had run out of gas on Main Street.
• On March 4 listened to a man who complained that a woman he was allowing to use his garage had spilled coolant in it. Police told him it was a civil issue.
• On March 4 were told that sugar had been poured into a pickup’s gas tank. When the truck owner said it had happened in Brandon, police referred the case to Brandon police.
• On March 4 dealt with an unlocked door at a New Haven Road business.
• On March 5 gave a drunken man a ride home south of the city.
• On March 5 received a complaint about a man smoking marijuana on American Legion Post 14 property. Police warned a suspect not to do so.
• On March 6 were asked to check the welfare of a recently widowed woman, but could not find her. Police asked other agencies to be on the lookout for her.
