City council fills VUHS board vacancy, sets pool rates
VERGENNES — In a Tuesday evening meeting, the Vergennes City Council OK’d two sidewalk projects (see story on Page 3A). In other business, council members:
• Appointed Greg Burdick to fill a Vergennes vacancy on the Vergennes Union High School board. No one had filed before the late-January deadline for an empty seat on the board, which will disband in June 2017, when the Addison Northwest Supervisory Union will transition to one-board governance. Burdick’s term will expire on Town Meeting Day next March. He is also the VUHS treasurer, but city officials determined serving both roles is not a legal conflict of interest.
• Set fees for use of the Vergennes swimming pool this season. All fees will remain the same except for lunchtime adult use of the pool, which will increase from $1 to $2.
• Heard from Alderman Lowell Bertrand, the Vergennes Green Up Day co-coordinator along with Craig Miner, that Green Up Day volunteers are welcome to gather at the city green on Saturday, May 7, between 8 a.m. and noon.
