Area students earn nursing degrees

MIDDLEBURY — The faculty and staff of the Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center Adult Education Program announce that the following students completed the Licensed Nurse Assistant certificate program during the month of April and were licensed by the Vermont State Board of Nursing: Veronica Sargent, Chelsea Plouffe, Lisa Kenyon, Amber Dragon, Jeffery Andrews and Loren Thresher.
Students learned the basics of assisting patients, body mechanics, ethics and communication in the medical setting. Completion of this program requires that students demonstrate proficiency in recognizing several life-threatening emergencies, administering CPR and using an AED and performing essential patient care procedures, and pass written and practical exams to demonstrate their knowledge and ability.
This is the third class in a row for instructor Mary Beth Tichacek in which 100 percent of her students passed the rigorous state exam on their first try.
