Quartet prevails in Thursday golf
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Middlebury College men’s golf team finished in a 20th-place tie among 41 teams competing at the NCAA Division III tournament last week held at both the Mendon Golf Club and Midvale Country Club in Rochester. The Panthers’ season ended on May 11 after two days of play when they failed to make the cut to continue further in the event.
The Panthers shot a team score of 305 on day one, 19 strokes off the pace at the Mendon Golf Club. Freshman Philippe Morin had a big opening day for the Panthers, firing a one-over-par 72 to put him in a tie for ninth place among 210 golfers.
Sophomore Bennett Doherty was the next lowest finisher for Middlebury, shooting a 76 to put him in a tie for 52nd place. One stroke behind was freshman Reid Buzby, who sat in a tie for 69th with a 77. Junior Rodrigo Andrade was the team’s fourth scorer with an 80. Rounding out the squad on the opening day was sophomore Joe Ko, who shot an 82.
On day two at the Midvale Country Club, Morin again paced the Panthers, carding a 78. After a 41 on the back nine, Morin turned up the heat on the front portion of the course with a 35. Andrade and Buzby were next, each with a 78, and Doherty finished with an 85. Ko shot an 88.
