Eagles baseball reaches semifinals

HYDE PARK — The No. 8 Mount Abraham Union High School baseball team knocked off host No. 1 Lamoille on Friday, 7-5, in a Division II quarterfinal.
The 7-11 Eagles advanced to Monday semifinal vs. No. 5 Harwood (12-5) at 4:30 p.m. The Eagles and the Highlanders did not meet this fall.
No. 1 U-32 and No. 6 Bellows Falls are squaring off in the other D-II semifinal. The final will be played at the University of Vermont’s Centennial Field at a time to be announced.
Winning pitcher Adam Whitcomb delivered the key blow in the Eagles’ win on Friday over the 14-4 Lancers. Lamoille led, 4-3, after three innings, but Whitcomb drilled a two-out, bases-loaded triple to give Mount Abe the lead for good.
Also sparking the Eagle attack were Wyatt Gendreau, who reached base four times on two hits and two walks, and Zach Hines, who poked two hits and drove in two runs.
