Bixby Library to offer creative writing workshops for adults

VERGENNES — Bixby Library’s summer programming for adults showcases support for the community’s creative impulses, and on Thursday, June 30, at 6 p.m., the first of eight weekly workshop sessions begins. The workshop group will led by local writer Muir Haman and is open to the public. Space is limited and registration is strongly suggested. Weekly Thursday evening meetings will focus on opening creative pathways and building personal support structures for beginner writers.
Haman is also the adult services librarian at the Bixby, and recently co-founded Zig Zag Lit Mag (more information at zigzaglitmag.org), Addison County’s only arts and literature magazine, with local screenwriting teacher Jay Dubberly. He has been leading writing workshops at the Bixby almost continuously since 2014.
The weekly two hour sessions will consist of timed writing prompts, suggestions for applicable techniques and approaches to writing, and a forum for shared writing and feedback. Writers will be encouraged to hone their craft between meetings and to bring recent writing if they are interested in feedback, time permitting. All skill and experience levels are welcome, and the content will be particularly appropriate to beginners and those looking to build confidence.
Other programming available through the Bixby Library that supports creativity includes a monthly table-read series on the final Tuesday of each month highlighting local writers; a series of classes on book-binding; a monthly movie showing and discussion; Vergennes ArtsWalk exhibits, highlighting local visual artists’ work; and the sponsorship of Zig Zag Lit Mag. More information on programming can be found at bixbylibrary.org/adult-programs.
The class will be free of charge and open to the public. Space is limited and registration is strongly suggested. Questions and registration should be directed to Muir Haman at 802-877-2211, ext. 208, or [email protected].
