Vermont State Police Log: DUI a recurring theme in accidents last week

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police reported two head-on crashes late last week, both involving drunk drivers.
The first was on Friday, Aug. 26, when at approximately 4:49 p.m. troopers responded to a two-car, head-on crash on Middle Road in Bridport. Police found a heavily damaged, overturned truck in a field. Police investigated, and screened the driver of the truck, identified as Joshua Clark, 23, of Livingston, Tenn., for driving under the influence.
Clark refused to provide a preliminary breath test and was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence. Police took him to the New Haven barracks for processing, where he was eventually released with a citation to appear in Addison County Superior Court, criminal division. Additional charges are pending following further investigation of the crash.
In the second case, troopers and Vergennes police officers on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 7:30 p.m. responded to Arnold Bay Road in Panton for the report of a head-on crash with injuries. Police determined that Edward Davis, 43, of Schenectady, N.Y., was driving a Honda Fit and was intoxicated when he struck a Honda Civic driven by Hans Vorsteveld, 53, of Vergennes.
Davis consented to a series of tests and voluntarily submitted to a preliminary breath test that showed a blood alcohol content of 0.120 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08. Police took Davis to the Vergennes police station, cited him for driving under the influence and jailed him at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility.
Davis was uninjured, but Vorsteveld suffered a broken wrist and was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center for treatment.
Davis’s Honda Fit sustained extensive damage to the front end on the passenger and driver side. Vorsteveld’s Honda Civic also sustained extensive damage to the front end and entire length of the passenger side.
In the only other case that state police at the New Haven barracks reported in the past week, troopers on Aug. 27 at just past midnight stopped a motor vehicle on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh. Police cited the driver, identified as Kenneth D. Edwards, 48, of Burlington, for driving with a criminally suspended license.
