In boys’ soccer: Commodore victory is a local highlight

ADDISON COUNTY — In boys’ soccer action in the latter half of last week, Vergennes posted the only victory by splitting a pair of games. Middlebury earned a tie and dropped its other contest, Otter Valley lost in overtime, and Mount Abraham fell twice.
COMMODORES
On Wednesday, visiting Rice defeated VUHS, 4-3. The 3-3 Green Knights took a 3-0 lead, saw VUHS rally to tie the score with three second-half goals, and then won on a penalty kick. Scoring for VUHS were Josias Salomao, from Tinder Kiely; Ezekiel Palmer, on a penalty kick; and Max Ratti-Bicknell, from Klaas Vorsteveld. VUHS goalies Cameron McLauglin and Ethan Sausville combined for eight saves.
On Saturday, Salomao’s overtime goal gave VUHS (4-4) a 2-1 win over visiting Missisquoi in the Commodores’ homecoming game. Palmer, with a Kiely assist, also scored for VUHS, and Sausville stopped seven shots. Kyle Gilbert made 10 saves for the 1-7 T-Birds.
TIGERS
On Wednesday, the Tigers and visiting Milton settled for a 0-0 tie. Santiago Fernandez made 11 saves for MUHS, and Alex Dooley stopped six shots for Milton.
On Saturday, host Rice defeated MUHS, 2-1, in overtime. Camden Simpson scored for the 2-4-2 Tigers.
OTTERS
On Friday, Twin Valley defeated OV in overtime, 2-1, in the final of Arlington’s four-team tourney. Thomas Kingsley converted a long direct kick for the OV goal, and the OV defense and goalie Clay Hays held the 8-0 Wildcats in check for most of the game. OV is 3-5-1.
EAGLES
On Wednesday, host Missisquoi defeated the Eagles, 2-1, in double overtime. Jackson Counter headed in a Jack Willis corner kick and goalie Ethan DeWitt stopped a penalty kick for the Eagles, who held a 14-6 advantage in shots at goal.
On Saturday, Milton (5-2-1) thumped Mount Abe, 7-1. Silas Burgess scored and Toby Bunch andEthan Dewitt combined for six stops for the 2-4-1 Eagles.
