VERGENNES — Vergennes police issued multiple citations to a 20-year-old Addison man on Saturday after his car allegedly rear-ended another car that, according to police, had stopped at a Main Street crosswalk to allow a pedestrian to cross the road.
Police said the occupants of the car struck by the vehicle driven by Brandon Richards of Addison suffered only minor injuries that the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad treated on the scene.  
Among other citations, Vergennes police cited Richards for a criminal charge of violating conditions of his release; they said he is currently being prosecuted for causing an accident while being under the influence of alcohol.
In this case, Vergennes police cited Richards for two alcohol-related charges, one for being under 21 and causing an accident while have a blood-alcohol content higher than 0.02, and the other for driving with an open container of an alcoholic beverage in the vehicle.
Vergennes police also cited Richards for using a cell phone while driving, following too closely, and driving without a seat belt.
In other incidents between Oct. 24 and 30, Vergennes police:
• On Oct. 24 helped firefighters from Vergennes and other area departments at a fire on Route 22A in Panton.
• On Oct. 24 tried unsuccessfully to find a car driven by a woman who was reported to be drunken by an employee of the city’s liquor outlet; police alerted other local agencies.
• On Oct. 24 talked to the driver of a car that a High Street woman reported to have gone past her home several times; the driver reported he was playing Pokemon Go.
• On Oct. 24 served a relief-from-abuse order to a Panton resident on behalf of Vermont State Police.
• On Oct. 25 responded to the Small City Market to look for a man reported to be acting suspiciously, but could not find him.
• On Oct. 25 heard from a Hillside Drive resident that a man was sending unwanted Facebook messages to her; the man said he was not, but knew who was and would speak to him, and the messages stopped, police said
• On Oct. 26 referred to state police a Waltham homeowner with a complaint that tools had been stolen.
• On Oct. 26 checked the welfare of a North Green Street resident, who said he was OK. However, the next day police returned to his apartment when VARS took him to Porter Hospital.
• On Oct. 27 served a child protection order to a Crescent Street woman on behalf of the Department for Children and Families; the order required her to stay away from her children, police said.
• On Oct. 28 calmed an argument between an employee and supervisor at Shaw’s Supermarket.
• On Oct. 28 were told that one half of a couple breaking up had taken a cellphone, clothes and other items from a residence; police determined it was a civil issue.
• On Oct. 29 sent Officer O’Neill and canine Kane to help state police on Carlstrom Road in Bristol, where an occupant had fled from a car accident; police said the canine unit found the individual after 2.5 miles of tracking.
• On Oct. 30 cited Veronica Woodhouse, 36, of Middlebury for driving under the influence, second offense, and failure to yield at a Stop sign at the intersection of School and Main streets. Police allege her blood alcohol content tested at 0.147; the legal limit is 0.08.
• On Oct. 30 were told the front door of a Main Street apartment building had been damaged by someone apparently trying to kick it in.
• On Oct. 30 helped VARS at a call on Cataract Place.
• On Oct. 30 took two reports of thefts at the Eagles Club on New Haven Road that remain under investigation, one of a wallet and cellphone and the other of the contents of a purse.
