Local adventurer to talk about dogsledding in the Great White North
VERGENNES — On Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m., the Bixby Library will host “Dogsledding in Labrador: Mushing in the Menihek Hills” with Ed Blechner. Meet the Addison resident and a few of his dogs, check out one of his dogsleds and enjoy the stories of his endeavors in the frozen North.
Blechner will share beautiful slides of his trip, anecdotes and answer a few questions as well. This presentation continues the Bixby Library showcase of stories, passions and talents of local Vermonters.
Blechner has been mushing sled dogs for more than 40 years throughout New England, New York, Quebec and Labrador. For much of that time, he led day and overnight sled dog trips and did educational programs with his dogs involving over 50,000 students. He is the head track coach at Middlebury Union High School, an avid gardener and lives with his wife Annette in Addison with their Alaskan huskies. Come and enjoy this presentation and meet some of Blechner’s friendly huskies.
The presentation will be free of charge and open to the public. It is part of an ongoing community-oriented storytelling series presented at Bixby Library. For more information, contact Muir Haman, Bixby’s adult services librarian at 802-877-2211 x 208 or email [email protected].
