MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police launched an investigation into a potential sexual assault at a Ridge Line Road student residence on Middlebury College campus on Jan. 31.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Were informed that someone had driven away from the Maplefields store on North Pleasant Street without paying for gas on Jan. 30.
•  Served a no-trespass order on a man who had allegedly gotten into an argument with a woman in the North Forty Lane area on Jan. 30.
•  Responded to a dispute between some Court Street neighbors on Jan. 31.
•  Served a civil violation for possession of marijuana on a man found with around 28.1 grams (just under an ounce)of pot in his car following a traffic stop in East Middlebury on Jan. 31.
•  Served a no-trespass order on Jan. 31 on a man who was not wanted at the Maplefields store on North Pleasant Street on Jan. 31.
•  Investigated a possible illegal burn on Quarry Road on Feb. 1.
•  Checked on the welfare of a local juvenile who had threatened to harm herself on Feb. 1. Police said the girl was OK and in the care of a parent.
•  Arrested Melanie Sargent, 47, on an arrest warrant out of New Hampshire, on Feb. 1.
•  Went to the scene of a car-versus-deer accident on Quarry Road on Feb. 2.
•  Destroyed a half-ounce of marijuana turned into the police department on Feb. 2.
•  Served a temporary restraining order on an East Middlebury man on Feb. 2.
•  Investigated a report of a loud Middlebury College party on Feb. 3, this one at a Weybridge  Street residence. Police said they warned the host to quiet down and make the party smaller. But more guests showed up and the music got louder, according to police. Authorities went back to the home and warned the host to shut down the party or face arrest. Police said the host complied.
•  Responded to a report of a drunken man at the Charter Housing warming center on Feb. 3.
•  Helped quiet a verbal domestic dispute at a Case Street residence on Feb. 3.
•  Cited Owen P. Rich, 53, of Middlebury for violating the town’s noise ordinance in the Court Street area on Feb. 3.
•  Served a no-trespass order on Feb. 3 on a man not wanted at the Middlebury Inn. Police allege the man had been going through the inn’s trash and became angry with an inn worker who told him to stop.
•  Responded to a report of a woman experiencing mental health issues in the Birchard Park area on Feb. 4.
•  Responded to a noise complaint on Feb. 4 involving a Middlebury College graduation party on Cross Street. Police issued a warning to the party hosts.
•  Investigated a domestic disturbance at a Ledgewood Court residence on Feb. 5. Police said a couple had been involved in a verbal argument. A woman involved in the incident left the home and will seek help from Addison County Family Court, according to police.
•  Disposed of a hypodermic needle found on Court Street on Feb. 5.
