After temperatures that smashed all records for several days, and then a downpour of rain on a recent Saturday afternoon and evening, I turned on the webcam for Rikert Nordic Center on that Sunday morning thinking there was no way there could be any skiing left. But I could see the groomers out at work, so I went on over, and to my amazement Mike Hussey’s crew had managed to maintain five kilometers of remarkably good Nordic trails.
The community should be very grateful that the college invested in the Breadloaf operation, and that it found such hard-working and adept people to staff it; it was a remarkable gift to find some winter left in Addison County.
