Swish kids take a shot

Eight youngsters from the Bristol and Vergennes area won the district free throw shooting competition held at the Mount Abe gym on Feb. 26.
Then, at the statewide Vermont Knights of Columbus Foul Shooting Contest held in Barre on Sunday, March 19, Kyra Bradford of Vergennes won the free throw shooting title in the 11-year-old girls’ category. In a group of five district winners, the state winner was determined based on the number of free throws made out of 25.
Bradford, shown at right, and another girl each scored 11, so they took five shots in a tie-breaker round, and tied again. They went through two more tie-breaker rounds before Bradford, shown with her trophy in Barre, left, won in the third tie breaker. Shown at the district competition, above, are, from left, 9-year-old champs Ryan Wright and Grethan Toy; Tyler Bergmans, 10; Peyton Paquette, 10; Kaydence Pecor, 10; Kyra Bradford, 11; Henry Cogswell, 12; and Felicia Pecor, 12. Gary Russell and many brother Knights officiated the district competition.
