Vergennes middle schoolers compete in Jr. Iron Chef Competition

ESSEX — More than 200 middle and high school students from around Vermont competed in the 10th annual Jr. Iron Chef Competition on Saturday, March 18 in Essex.
The Fusion afterschool program at Vergennes Union Middle School (VUMS) sent a team of five students coached by Basin Harbor Executive Chef Christian Kruse (Vermont Chef of the year) and JoAllen Vincent from Cafe Services, the company that provides lunches at VUHS.
Three awards are given at the event: The Crowd Pleaser, The Lively Local and the Mise en Place. The Vergennes team won the Mise en Place in the Middle School category.
Mise en Place (everything in its place): This award goes to the team that shows exemplary teamwork, order and professionalism, both during the competition and in the registration process.
