Letter to the Editor: Homeward Bound benefits from many volunteers
As we celebrate National Volunteer Week April 23-29, I am humbled to take the opportunity to recognize the many individuals in Addison County who give their time, skills, resources, and energy to Homeward Bound, Addison County’s Humane Society. This organization was founded by volunteers and throughout our 41 years of operation, they have been key to advancing our message, educating our community, and caring for our animals.
Like many Addison County non-profits, we are a small organization running multiple programs and volunteers are the glue that keeps many of these programs functioning daily. The transport volunteer who shows up at 8, coffee in hand, to drive an animal to a vet appointment supports our medical program; the clerical volunteer who spends regular weekday afternoons deleting duplicate entries from our database helps us run efficient fundraisers; the dog walker who shows up in the pouring rain (or sleet or sweltering sun) to walk our dogs around the neighborhood is a vital part of our animal enrichment program; and event volunteers who lend trucks and time make Woofstock run smoothly for all.
I could go on and on; I cannot count the ways in which volunteers support the efforts of Homeward Bound so I will just say, Thank you!
