High school softball: Eagles post win; Tigers, VUHS lose

ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school softball action, all on Tuesday, Mount Abraham won its opener, Middlebury dropped a tight game, and Vergennes lost its opener. Otter Valley was idle early this week.
EAGLES
The Eagles broke open a tight game with a six-run sixth inning in a 9-3 victory over visiting Mount Mansfield. Jenna McArdle homered, singled and drove in three runs for the Eagles. Erika Tracey hit a key two-out triple, singled and drove in a run; Genysis Berube tripled and singled; and Emily Aldrich poked three hits. 
Winning pitcher Rachael McCormick allowed one earned run and two hits while striking out nine; McCormick also had two hits. Rylee LeBourveau took the complete-game loss and also also had both MMU hits.
COMMODORES
Visiting St. Johnsbury took a quick 9-0 lead on the way to pounding out a 23-10 victory over VUHS.
Taylor Bresnick, Sarah Rathbun andXzavia Berry each had three hits and an RBI for VUHS. Bresnick, Berry and Becca Maloy scored two runs apiece, and Aly Gebo took the pitching loss.
TIGERS
Visiting Essex edged MUHS, 1-0, with the only run scoring on sixth-inning passed ball. Losing pitcher Payton Buxton (nine strikeouts) and winning hurler Jamie Morin (six whiffs) each tossed complete-game two-hitters. Ally Larocque and Darcy Staats had the hits for the 1-1 Tigers.
