Tigers, Otters get softball wins

ADDISON COUNTY — Middlebury won twice and OV won once to provide the local highlights in high school softball late last week. Elsewhere, Mount Abraham lost twice, and Vergennes fell once.
TIGERS
On Thursday, the Tigers coasted past visiting Milton, 18-3. Bridget Audet picked up the pitching win, allowing seven hits. Gwen Stafford and Lily Smith poked three hits each, and Abby LaRock doubled and singled.
On Friday, host MUHS picked up a key Division I win over North Country as Payton Buxton hurled a four-hitter and fanned 10 in a 4-0 victory. Ally Larocque’s two-run single keyed the Tigers’ big fourth inning, Smith added another two hits, and Darcy Staats also drove in a run as the Tigers improved to 9-2. Kylie Wright tossed a five-hitter for the 9-2 Falcons.
OTTERS
On Friday, Courtney Bushey tossed a four-hitter and struck out 12 as the Otters blanked visiting Bellows Falls, 12-0. OV improved to 4-5 as Katie Coolidge doubled, singled and drove in two runs; Gabby Poalino tripled, singled and drove in a run; and Livia Bernhardt poked two hits.
EAGLES
The Eagles lost twice to top D-I teams and fell to 7-3. They remain atop the D-II standings, however. On Thursday, visiting Missisquoi (9-1) scored a run in the seventh to edge the Eagles, 7-6. Losing pitcher Rachael McCormick had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run; Jenna McArdle picked up two RBIs; and Megan McIntyre doubled.
On Friday, visiting Colchester improved to 10-1 with a 12-5 victory. Katelynn Ouellette led Mount Abe with three hits, while Emily Aldrich and McCormick, who took the loss, each drilled two hits.
COMMODORES
On Friday, host BFA-St. Albans topped VUHS, 10-4. Sarah Rathbun homered, and Hannah Philbrook picked up two hits for the 2-8 Commodores.
