Otters only winners in local high school baseball

ADDISON COUNTY — Otter Valley picked up a road win in local high school baseball, but Vergennes, Middlebury and Mount Abraham came up short away from home in games all played on Tuesday.
OTTERS
The Otters pounded out 23 hits in an 18-1 victory at Springfield. Josh Beayon tossed the five-inning complete game, allowing three hits and striking out 11 while allowing one unearned run. Beayon also drove in four runs with three hits, while Colby McKay plated three runs with three hits and Dominic McCullough also added three hits. The Otters won their third straight and improved to 7-4 heading into a Wednesday game at Hartford.
EAGLES
Host Champlain Valley edged the Eagles, 2-1. George Bailey was the tough-luck losing pitcher, allowing five hits in six innings to the 9-3 Redhawks, who scored runs on a squeeze bunt and a steal of home. Dustin Whitcomb scored for the Eagles on a wild pitch. Bailey, Adam Whitcomb andChris Wood picked up hits for the Eagles, who dropped to 5-7, but remain in sixth place in Division II according to the Vermont Principals’ Association website.
TIGERS
MUHS also lost a squeaker, 2-0 at St. Johnsbury (8-3). The Hilltoppers scored on a balk and an RBI groundout. Losing pitcher Skyeler Devlin allowed only three hits, and Austin Friend poked two of the 1-11 Tigers’ six hits.
COMMODORES
Host Missisquoi defeated VUHS, 12-5, as Richard Walker gave up four hits and fanned 11 batters in six innings. Hunter O’Connor tripled, doubled and scored twice for the Commodores, who dropped to 4-7 with their third straight setback.
