Tiger girls’ lacrosse tangles with Mt. Anthony for D-1 crown

BURLINGTON — The battle of the unbeatens went to the Middlebury Union High School girls’ lacrosse team on Monday at the University of Vermont’s Virtue Field.
But it wasn’t easy, as the 18-0, top-seeded Tigers had to outscore No. 2 Mount Anthony down the stretch and hold the high-powered 17-1 Patriot offense in check to pull out a 10-8 victory.
The Tigers got a combined nine goals from junior midfielders Satchel McLaughlin (four), Andi Boe (three) and Isabel Rosenberg (two), and another strong effort from junior goalie Raven Payne (six saves) and the defense of senior Riley Fenster, juniors Keagan Dunbar and Abby Gleason, and sophomore Lacey Greenamyre.
The title was the program’s first since 2008, and the win snapped a five-game losing streak for MUHS in D-I championship games.
Read all the game details in Andy Kirkaldy’s complete wrap up of this hard-fought game and see more Trent Campbell photos in Thursday’s Addison Independent.
