IVY DORAN, A 13-year-old Middlebury resident stands in the back, fifth from right, with the rest of her American soccer team that late last month competed in — and won — the Dana Cup in Denmark, one of the world’s largest international youth soccer tournaments. Doran, who will be an eighth-grader at Middlebury Union Middle School this fall, competed on the girls’ 2004 GPS (Global Premier Soccer) national team with players from all around the country. These girls gave up one goal and scored 27 throughout the competition, were undefeated and won the cup in a 1-0 final against a team from Norway.
Doran played right back/defense and recorded two assists in the tournament, which was played in Hjorring, Denmark, July 24-29. The Dana Cup included more than 5,000 female competitors from more than three dozen countries.
