Hartford tops Tiger football
HARTFORD — Defending Division I champion Hartford on Friday rolled past the Middlebury Union High School football team, 36-7, a result that left both teams at 1-1 in the early going.
The Tigers face another tough challenge this Friday, when St. Johnsbury visits Doc Collins Field at 7 p.m. The 2-0 Hilltoppers won a close game at Hartford in the season’s opening week.
On this past Friday Hurricane quarterback Tyler Hamilton threw touchdown passes to Austin Gaudette and Nick Porter, totaled 231 yards in the air, and rushed for 42 yards and a touchdown. Porter also ran 24 yards for a score and intercepted a pass.
The Tigers took a 7-0 first-quarter lead on Simon Fischer’s 70-yard punt return, but Hamilton and Porter’s TD runs put Hartford on top for good. Late in the half, Hamilton hit Gaudette for a nine-yard score following a Tiger fumble. Porter and Trevor LaBreque (14-yard run) added second-half TDs.
