MUHS boys’s soccer edge Milton, reach 8-1-3
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ soccer team edged visiting Milton on Tuesday, 1-0, to extend its unbeaten streak to 10 games.
Eben Jackson’s free kick with five minutes to go proved to be the game-winner, and goalie Santiago Fernandez backstopped the win with three saves. The shutout was the sixth of the season for the Tigers, who have surrendered no more than one goal in any game. Jacob Whitcomb made eight saves for 9-4 Milton.
The 8-1-3 Tigers will wrap up their regular season by hosting Division II Missisquoi on Saturday at 10 a.m. Tuesday’s result left them in fifth place in the Vermont Principals’ Association standings, but the Tigers will need help to catch Champlain Valley (9-3) for the No. 4 seed. MUHS also might need help to hold off No. 6 Rutland (8-3-1) in a tight race because the Raiders could earn more points by defeating D-I opponents.
The VPA will announce playoff pairings on Monday morning.
