Letter to the Editor: Balch, Davis left imprint on Morgan Horse Farm

As the Morgan Horse Farm begins new leadership as referenced in the article “Trio takes the reins at the Morgan Horse Farm” published in the Nov. 9 edition, it is important to remember and honor the leadership of the former directors, Dr. Donald J. Balch and Stephen Davis.
Dr. Balch was my grandfather, and it is important to me and my family that he be remembered for the accomplishments he achieved by being the first director of the farm. In 1952, Dr. Balch was given the job of “saving” the farm and that is exactly what he did, plus so much more. His work transformed the farm into a farm of championship horses, a farm with an apprenticeship program and a farm that attracts tourists from near and far. Dr. Balch loved the Morgan Horse Farm and his dedication and devotion hopefully will never be forgotten.
As the new leadership starts their journey at the farm, I hope they can keep the spirit and passion of the directors that came before them. I wish all three the best of luck!
