Middlebury to save $99K through new insurance program
MIDDLEBURY — At its Nov. 14 meeting, the Middlebury selectboard accepted a bid of $278,600 from the Vermont League of Cities & Towns to provide property and casualty insurance, as well as workers’ compensation insurance, to the town of Middlebury in 2018.
This sum represents a $99,000 reduction in what the town has been paying per year through its VLCT PACIF coverage, according to Town Manager Kathleen Ramsay. Reasons for the savings, according to Ramsay, include major changes in VLCT’s underwriting and rating methods that benefit member towns that have “average” of “above-average” loss results.
Separately, on this past Tuesday, the Middlebury selectboard unanimously nominated Middlebury College freshman Sullivan Barth to fill a vacancy on the town’s energy committee.
